Frances "Teny" I. Colston

May 30, 1923 — February 25, 2019

Indianapolis, Indiana

Frances I. Colston, age 95, passed away Feb. 25th. She was born May 30, 1923, to Readel and Erva Peterson, in Des Moines Iowa. She was so tiny they put her in a shoebox and fed her with an eye dropper. Against all odds she survived and was given the nickname “Teny”. In 1943 she married the late Dr. Lowell G. Colston. In 1958, she moved to Indianapolis when Lowell accepted a position at Christian Theological Seminary. She enjoyed hosting a weekly faculty wives prayer group, and was an active member of University Park Christian Church. Fran was always eager to help others. In 1971, the Colston family was given a shock when learning of Lowell’s impending renal failure. Frances learned to administer dialysis treatments at home to minimize their impact on the family. Despite her busy schedule of caring for Lowell and the family, she still made time to help others. After Lowell’s death in 1986, Frances decided to work as a receptionist at the Butler Health and Counselling Center where she enjoyed helping students with their issues. Upon her retirement in 2002 she received the Woman of Distinction Award. As a loyal season ticket holder for many years, Frances was an avid Bulldog Basketball fan. Frances enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and squirrels, and sitting in the swing with friends, neighbors, and family. A few of her greatest qualities were Love, kindness, and always wanting to help others, that was Fran. She is survived by children; Barbara Honey, Jeffrey (Mary) Colston, Cheryl Colston, grandchildren; Elizabeth Young, Jason Young, Kyle Colston, and Kyra Colston. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Pension Fund of the Christian Church-PO Box 6251, Indianapolis IN 46206-6251.
