Frances M. Rains, 78, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away February 10, 2018. She was born May 1, 1939 to Carlos and Nettie Green in Bim, West Virginia.
She came to the Indianapolis area at the age of 18, with her husband, Clarence, who came to the area for work. She was a member of New Beginnings Church in Plainfield, Indiana. She met and married the first love of her life, the late Clarence Phillips, during her teenage years and began building a family shortly after. But Frances was lucky enough to find love twice in life. Later in life, she was introduced to Jack Rains through her best friend, Alta. She went on to marry Jack and spend many wonderful years with him, until his passing. Family remembers her as a kind, devoted woman who truly loved unconditionally. She was the kind of woman who never met a stranger and always left people better off than she found them. She had a heart of gold she graciously extended to friends and strangers alike. Frances was undoubtedly a phenomenal woman who enjoyed the outdoors, especially birds and flowers, and would often sit outside her home taking in all her surroundings as a true outdoorsy woman would. She particularly loved lilies and yellow roses. But don’t let this sweet, kind lady fool you–she had a competitive side especially for the Indianapolis Colts. Her family recalls taking her to a playoff game against New England, where her support for the Colts shined through…as she yelled out the car window at passing Patriots fans on the road. Above all, Frances believed family was everything. She worked 35 years for NAPA Balkamp, to help provide for them until her retirement in 1995. She was a one of a kind woman who will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of meeting her.
Frances is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Rains; husband, Clarence Phillips; son, Robert Phillips; and siblings, Dorman Green, Robert Green, Elena Waldron, Carson Green, Garnet Green. Surviving to cherish her memory are her siblings, Carmen (Brenda) Green, Virginia (Henry) Harvey, Charlotte Stewart; children, Terry (Debbie) Phillips, Gary Phillips, Joy (Gary) Bridwell, Steve (Heather) Phillips; grandchildren, Faith Phillips, Derrick Masey, Katrina Masey, Shawn Bridwell, Shelby (Michael) McKinnon, Cody Phillips, Luke Schultz, Matthew Phillips; and great-grandchild, Knightly McKinnon.
