Forrest Ramsey, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on December 22, 2019.
He was born on November 7, 1933 in Greenup, Illinois to Pearl and Daisey Ramsey. After graduating high school, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy from December 2, 1952-December 1, 1960. During the Korean War, he was proud to have been a crew team member who assisted in maintaining aircrafts. On October 17, 1959 he met and married the love of his life, Edna Mae. and while she was taken too soon, they had 20 years together. Forrest had a long career of over 55 years as a truck driver, working for Coca Cola, UPS, and eventually retired from Roadway Express. Following his retirement, he found his way back into trucking and worked for Trillium until the age of 78.
He was the epitome of a gentleman, a kind and gentle soul whose positive attitude and smile was infectious to everyone he met. If he gave you a special nickname, you knew you had become friends. He was a devoted Christian and enjoyed reading his Bible daily and valued spending time with his family. Forrest was known around his assisted living facility for singing his favorite songs and hymns, but was coined by some as “Elvis”, not for his singing, but for his great hair. He was a very generous man with his contributions, but also with his time and resources, and was the kind of person that would give the shirt off his back to a stranger. He also volunteered for the prayer lines at Trinity Broadcast Network. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Randy Ramsey and Susan Lawson (Mark); grandchildren, Tiffany Hampton (Dwayne), Sarah Solodow (Jason), Chris Lawson (Kelly), Tony Lawson (Rhiannon), Nicole Gilbert (Jake); and great-grandchildren, Ryley, Haley, Kylan, Declan, Leona, Isla, Jeremiah, Maverick; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna Mae Ramsey; brother, Dwayne Ramsey; and sisters, Thelma Williams and Norma Carter.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 1:00pm-2:00pm on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East with a funeral service to follow at 2:00pm. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
