Floyd Alcorn

March 1, 1932 — January 26, 2017

Floyd Alcorn, 84, died of complications due to cancer on Thursday, January 26, 2017 in Indianapolis, IN. He worked for over thirty years for HUD and served during the Korean conflict as a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps. Floyd was a member of the Third Church Christ, Scientist where he faithfully served several years as an usher. He was passionate about those who had fallen on difficult circumstances and for those who were first responders. Floyd quenched that passion through serving nearly 20 years as a volunteer with the local chapter of the Red Cross, where he received the distinguished “Outstanding Volunteer” award in 1982. Floyd loved sports. He was an avid tennis player and fan, and he quickly adopted the Colts when they moved to Indianapolis. He loved to travel, reveled in his jazz music, and savored the occasional theater show. Floyd will be dearly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his loving daughter, Randa Austin and his oldest son, Floyd Alcorn II, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 10 at 3 PM at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. W. Drive, Indianapolis, IN, with visitation from 2-3 PM. A reception will follow the services at 4 PM at the same location. In lieu of flowers, the family would be thankful for contributions to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society. A tribute to Floyd Alcorn’s life may be viewed online at www.flannerbuchanan.com, where condolence may be shared with his family.
