Florence M. (Anderson) Funcannon

FLORENCE M. (ANDERSON) FUNCANNON

 FISHERS – 96, passed away on January 15, 2023.  She was born in West Terre Haute, IN, on November 6, 1926, to the late Charles “Bunk” and Mary (Cashner) Anderson.  After graduating from Concannon High School in 1944, she attended St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing in Terre Haute.  After graduating from nursing school, she moved to Indianapolis and worked at the Veterans Hospital then located at Fort Harrison, and later at the VA hospital on the west side.  It meant a lot to her that as a nurse she could help others, many of whom were WWII veterans.  She met her future husband, Jack Funcannon, on a bus traveling from Indianapolis to Terre Haute.

Florence and Jack married on November 24, 1950, a memorably snowy, cold day in Terre Haute.  They settled in Indianapolis, where they started a vending distributorship business which they had for over 40 years.  They were long-time members of Lawrence United Methodist Church and were active in the Lawrence community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Funcannon; brother Ernie Anderson; sisters Helen Phillips (Bob), and Dorthey Lambert.

Surviving Florence are her daughter Kathy (Rick) Whitton; granddaughters Suzanne (Mike) Rietdorf, Stephanie Whitton, and great grandsons Liam and Ean.  Also surviving are sisters Eileen Mullen, Patty (George) Bohlen, sister-in-law Sarah Anderson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Memory Care staff at Allisonville Meadows for their kindness and patience in caring for Mom.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 22, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.; Monday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m., with funeral services to begin at noon at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN. Burial will follow the service in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
