Florence Hood

Florence (Coleman) Hood was born November 1, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana to James and Pearl (McCullum) Coleman. At a young age, Florence acknowledged Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and eventually became a member of Good Samaritan Baptist Church. Florence graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. After high school, she continued her education in the field of administration while also devoting her energies to nurturing her beautiful family. Florence married Marc Hood on December 14, 1968. To this union her daughters, Shuan and Marquette were born. After her marriage ended, Florence persevered as a hands-on single mother who developed her daughters into independent young women, doing so while furthering her career in the retail sales industry. She later united with the love of her life, Robert Hudson, and they reveled in many years of bliss prior to his passing. After Robert’s passing, Florence reinvented herself and navigated into a successful career as Vice President and General Manager of Operations in the commercial janitorial industry. During that time, she romantically reconnected with a long-time friend and to their relationship her son, Jayme Hood was born. Florence was known for her style and flair, as well as her love for shopping. She was a generous gift-giver who lavishly showered her family and friends with tokens of love. She loved listening to music from such crooners as Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, and Eddie LeVert as well as her fellow diva, Patti LaBelle. In her latter years, Florence truly enjoyed spending quality time with her delightful grandchildren and most recently her adorable great-grandchildren. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, James and Pearl Coleman, and her loving companion, Robert Hudson. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: Siblings - Dorothy Bodie, Ella Clemmons, Cleona Sharp, Flora Young, James Coleman Jr. and Jerome Coleman; Children - Shuan Hood, Marquette (Hood) Jamison and Jayme Hood; Grandchildren - Steven Hood, Sr., Dorian Ursery, Joseph “Tony” Jamison, Jr., Jaylah Jamison and Hendrix Hood; Great-Grandchildren - Steven Hood, Jr., Sevynn Hood and Caris Morin; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
