Florence F. Asher

Florence E. (Fields) Asher, 84, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born to parents Arthur & Iva (Smith) Fields at home in Laurel County, Kentucky on April 9, 1940. She married her beloved Ferrell Asher on July 17, 1959, celebrating 65 years of marriage together this year. 

Florence worked at AT&T as a telephone manufacturer for 30 years. Even after her retirement, she had to stay busy, working in her garden with her flowers until her later years. She also could be found enjoying a good game of cards; Rook , Set-Back and Rummy being her favorites. Florence relaxed by bird watching, working puzzles, and listening to gospel music, or watching the grandkids sporting events. 

A good Christian woman she spent as much time with her family as she could she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. The best thing this side of Heaven, Florence will be deeply missed and remembered for her love of life and her love of the Lord.

In addition to her parents, Florence is preceded in death by her siblings Denvis Fields, Alpha Brown, Willis Fields, her son-in law Pete Swartz, and grandson JP Swartz.

She is survived by her husband Ferrell, children Rick Asher, Ronda Swartz , and Renee (David) Atkinson; siblings Goldie Blanton, Jean Hoskins, Boyd Fields, Lynn Fields, and Chyrl Taylor; and grandchildren Monica Asher, Colleen Asher, Nicholas Asher, Eric Asher, Vanessa Asher, Katie Swartz, Luke Swartz, and Lucy Swartz. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street) from 11 am to 1 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with Pastor Robert King and Mike Jarrell presiding. Burial will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery immediately following. The family is hosting a gathering at Axis Worship Center (8220 Brookville Road Parking Lot, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46239) after the services.
