F. Edward Butz, 93, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016. He was born July 26, 1922 in Flora, IN to Frank A. Butz and Ressie (Mussleman) Butz. Ed graduated Walton High School in 1940 and served in the B.T.C. 9th division of the United States Army during WWII in Miami Beach, FL. He is preceded in death by his sister Margaret Williamson and wives R. Eloise Hinkle Butz and Irene “Sally” Butz. He is survived by his wife Nondas Suckow Butz and was the proud father of Thomas E. Butz, Stephen C. Butz (Barbara) and William A. Butz (Betsy). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren he adored: Suzanne Adcook (Richard), Katie Rouse (Marvin), Stephanie Groves (Ryan), William Butz, Jr. (Amber), Julia Butz, Jason Butz and David Butz (Cayla). The lights of his life were his great grandchildren: Emma Adcook (12), Scott Adcook (11), Lauren Rouse (9), Jakob Rouse (10) and Chloe Butz (5).
Ed was owner and Chairman of the Board of Butz Lumber from 1960-2009. He earned the nickname “Fast Eddie” behind the wheel of a car and while piloting planes. He served as President of the Indianapolis Aero Club in 1985. Ed was a 50-year member of Millersville Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. He was a life member of the PGA Tour, past Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Indianapolis Housing Authority, longtime member of the Meridian Street United Methodist Church and was instrumental in the church’s Youth Fellowship Program in the 1960s and 70s. He loved the Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Colts and supported them throughout his lifetime.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 15 at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 16 at Meridian Street United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
