Evelyn Marie Groves

Evelyn Marie Groves, 96, was born on January 10, 1926, to parents Kenneth and Ella Ray of Indianapolis, sister, Betty Waggoner and brother, Richard Ray. She started working at a young age to help provide for her family. She took a job as a carhop on skates at a local drive-in. She then moved on to a drug store, then onto Fort Harrison, where she met her future mother-in-law, Maggie Groves. Evelyn married her husband of 76 years, Thomas Groves, on September 7, 1946. After marriage, she took a job at Indianapolis Life, where she retired in 1989. Tom and Evelyn had two beautiful daughters, Lynne (Dennis) Foley and Sue (Joe) Weaver. She had five grandchildren, Victoria Wisner, Valerie (Heath) McDaniel, Tom (Brandi) Weaver, Dennis (Shauna) Foley, and Lacy Rokicki, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Groves, brother, Richard Ray, sister, Betty Waggoner, daughter, Lynne Foley, and grandson, Dennis Foley.

Evelyn passed away on April 12, 2022, with her loving daughter by her side.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Indianapolis Humane Society, the American Lung Association, or Horizon House of Indianapolis.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022, at 11:00am to 1:00pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd W Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46226, with a funeral service to immediately follow.
