Ms. Evelyn Harper, 88, passed away peacefully January 12th, 2025. She was born August 15th, 1936 in Memphis, Tennessee to parents Willie and Rosie (Beavers) Crawford.
Evelyn grew up in Tennessee, where she attended high school. She later furthered her education, earning an associate degree.
Evelyn met the love of her life, Retired SGM Emanuel F. Harper Jr. when she was a young woman. They married and shared 50 wonderful years together. Traveling with her husband during his 27 years in the military, Evelyn saw the world. Together, they raised two sons, Emanuel Harper III and Vincent Harper.
Evelyn’s faith was paramount in her life. She was a valued member of Memorial Chapel in Indianapolis and always looked forward to attending church and prayer groups.
Evelyn was a vibrant, loving woman. She loved people and never knew a stranger. Her family was always her priority, and she kept them well fed, as she was an excellent cook. As her family grew, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Evelyn is survived by her son Emanuel “Manny” Harper III (Kathleen Harper), and daughter in law Lisa Harper; grandchildren Vincent Paul Harper II, Emanuel Floyd Harper IV, Richard Andre Harper, and Joshua Aaron Harper; great-grandchildren Elijah, Brendon, Trey, Cydnei, Sophie, and Noah; and adopted granddaughter Mikayla Lee-Cole.
She is predeceased by her parents; her husband; her son Vincent Paul Harper; and her siblings.
Visitation for Evelyn will be Thursday, January 23rd, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East from 11-1pm. Her funeral will begin at 1pm. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
