Eveline Emilie Van Velse

October 8, 1927 — June 16, 2020

Indianapolis, IN

Eveline Emilie Van Velse, 92, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on June 16, 2020.  She was born on October 8, 1927 to the late Victor Eugenius and Adolphina Wilhelmina Palm in Medan, Sumatra (Indonesia).

Eveline met the love of her life, the late Jan Jacobus Van Velse, and they wed on July 1, 1948.  Together they began their marriage in Indonesia where they had two sons, Rene Arthur (wife – Annette) and Frank Martin, and moved their family to Holland where they had their third son, Edwin Roy (wife – Kathleen) in 1954.  Shortly thereafter, they immigrated to the United States to plant their roots where they completed their family, Reginald Patrick (wife – Nancy), Maureen Angela (Husband – Stephen Schoch) and Kenneth Andrew.  Eveline was a dedicated mother to her six children and loved the joy her family brought her.

She is survived by all her children, 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren with another on the way!

She is preceded in death by her late husband, Jan, her grandson, Matthew Richard, her granddaughter, Amanda Josephine and great-grandsons, Luke Adam and Liam Thomas.

Eveline was deeply rooted in her faith and actively participated in rosary prayer groups honoring Our Virgin Mary.  She instilled her strong religious beliefs and provided a firm, spiritual foundation for her children to ensure successful, meaningful lives.  She was a long-time member of St. Simon the Apostle Church and volunteered in their school library.  She loved to cook and sold her ever-popular egg rolls, fried rice and shrimp chips at the International Cuisine booth at the annual church festival.  In 1997, she moved to St. Lawrence Catholic Church when St. Simon’s moved to Oaklandon.  She was also the Secretary for the Indonesian-Dutch Club.

She had a love for all of God’s creations that included a multitude of cats, dogs, birds and fish.  She had quite the green thumb and enjoyed growing roses and orchids.  Sewing was a passion as well as being the family’s alarm clock!  Even though her children were grown and away from home, she would faithfully call them to make sure they were up in time for work, church or any special occasion.

Her final home was at Arlington Place Health Campus where many of the staff and residents became family, as well.

Eveline lived a full life filled with everyone and everything she loved, and everyone loved her!
