Eva N. Ghobrial

Indianapolis, Indiana

Eva N. Ghobrial was born on May 1st, 1946, and went to be with the Lord on August 1st, 2023, at the age of 77. She was born in Cairo, Egypt to Nassif Youssef and Emily Girgis. Eva was the second of six children and grew up surrounded by her large and loving family.

At a young age, Eva discovered a love of music and went on to turn her passion into a career. She attended the Cairo Conservatory of Music followed by the Institute of Music, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music education. Eva was immediately hired at her alma mater as a professor of piano and went on to earn her master’s degree while continuing to teach.

In 1975 Eva married her college sweetheart and fellow music student, Makram Ghobrial.  They had one daughter, Anne, in 1977 and emigrated to the United States in 1986, where they built a new life in a new country together.

In the United States, Eva continued her musical legacy by offering private piano lessons where many benefited from the enriching experience and her wealth of knowledge.

Eva was known as a tenacious and driven woman with an incredibly generous spirit and kind heart. She lived her life with intention, and her biggest joy in life was serving others. Whether you were a family member, friend, acquaintance or stranger to Eva, she was known to show acts of love and generosity. She loved to provide thoughtful gifts of home cooked Egyptian meals and baked goods and had a way of remembering everyone’s favorite things.  Eva was kind and nurturing to her core.

In her later years Eva was notorious for her beautiful garden and was so proud of the vibrant flowers enveloping her little yellow house. She spent hours lovingly tending to her vegetables, herbs, houseplants and flowers surrounding the home inside and out. As her garden grew and flourished, birds came from far and wide to enjoy the beauty and Eva loved watching them enjoy the space she created. Of course, she couldn’t let them go hungry and made it her job to keep them well-fed. Consequently, the squirrels also found nourishment. Eva was particularly fond of hummingbirds and would become simply giddy every time one buzzed by. She came to be known for her love of birds and will always be thought of when there are hummingbirds nearby.

Eva placed tremendous value on family. She especially cherished spending time with her grandchildren and always had fun activities or crafts to do with them. There was no limit to the love she had for others and no end to how far she would go for anyone in her life. Eva’s passing will leave an unfillable void in the lives of all she touched, but the mark she left on their hearts will be a precious reminder of who she was.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Makram. She is survived by her daughter Anne (Ted) Elliott and grandchildren Gracie, Jayden and Riley. She is also survived by all five of her siblings; Edward (Nadia), Suzan (Fouad), Renee, Magda (George), and Magdy (Amany) and their many children and grandchildren.
