Eula M. Johnson

Eula Mae Johnson was born on September 22, 1939 in Dillon, SC to the late Lawrence Bethea and Bertha Lee Bethea. She entered her eternal resting state on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021.

“Eula” the oldest of twelve children, was born in Dillon, SC on September 22, 1939 to Bertha Lee Bethea and the late Lawrence Bethea. At the age of fourteen, she relocated with her family from Dillon, SC to Camden, New Jersey, where she attended and graduated from the Camden City School System. In 1967, she met the late William Johnson, whom she later married in 1985.

In 1989, she accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized and joined Tabernacle of Faith C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership and teachings of Bishop Hillard Moses. In 1996, she relocated to Syracuse, NY, where she resided and worked for 6 years. She retired in 2005 from the NY State Office of Family and Children Services. In 2009, she relocated to Indianapolis, IN, where she worked for the Indiana Public School System and retired in 2015.

In 2010, she joined Hope Worship Center in Indianapolis, IN, where some of her roles included being on The Mother Board, Outreach Ministry and Hospitality Ministry.

Eula’s favorite hobbies included reading the bible, gardening, fishing, playing computer games, and listening to music. She also enjoyed traveling, which she did most of with her sister Hartencie (Annie) and prided herself on her cross-country journeys visiting historical landmarks.

Eula’s favorite scriptures were Proverbs 13:12: “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” and Isaiah 43:19: “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

She leaves to cherish Mother: Bertha Lee Bethea.

She leaves to cherish three brothers: James Bethea, NJ, Anthony Bethea (Gloria), NJ, and Kenneth Bethea (Tammy), York, PA. Four sisters: Hartencie Carmichael (†Dennis), Randallstown, MD, Delores Bethea, Williamsport, PA, Phyllis Foye (James), Buffalo, NY, and Nona Watson, York, PA.

She leaves to cherish seven children and six stepchildren: Carmen Bethea, Camden, NJ, Glenda Bethea- Cobb (Richard), Indianapolis, IN, Tracey Laramore, Douglasville, GA, Loretta Parks, Ohio, Troy Bethea (Tasha), Camden, NJ, Warren Bethea (Tia), Camden, NJ, Marlon Paulk (Lisa), Indianapolis, IN, Cassie Johnson (NY), William Johnson Jr (GA), Bosco Johnson (NY), and Steven Johnson (PA).

Fifteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren: Michael Bethea, LaTisha Johnson, LaRonn Paulk (LaToya), Marlon Paulk Jr (Nicole), Troy Jr, Samantha, LaVonn, Monica, Monique, Toianna, Warren Jr., Marlena, Alexis, and Aaron.

Eula was preceded in death by her late husband, William Johnson, brother, John Bethea, sisters, Veronica Shields and Pamela Bethea, grandson Manvel Bethea (Akiko), and stepdaughters Gwendolyn Johnson and Debra Johnson. She leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, special longtime friend Marilyn, and her Church Families of IN, NJ and NY.
