Eugene “Gene” Ziegler, 97, passed away peacefully September 22nd, 2023, surrounded by family, and finally winning the grand prize, entering the Publisher’s Clearing House in the sky.
He was born March 11th, 1926, in Huntington County, Indiana to parents Clarence and Hazel (Schemerhorn) Ziegler.
On March 19th, 1949, Gene married the love of his life, Evelyn Will. They shared 74 wonderful years together.
Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army as a TSgt (Tech Sergeant), serving in World War II, Philippines Campaign.
A very hard worker and spirited entrepreneur, Gene held many jobs in retail and later became a successful real estate agent. He officially retired in 1994.
Gene was a strong, loving husband and father with an incredible sense of humor. He and his wife loved to travel, taking cruises and trips all over the country. They valued their yearly, summer trips to Dale Hollow Lake, where the family loved boating, swimming, and watching Gene perform his famous “underwater skiing”. Gene was a talented artist and woodworker and after retiring, he enjoyed participating in craft shows.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Evelyn Ziegler; daughters Laura Ziegler (Joseph Holland), and Cynthia McDaniel (Michael); grandchildren Nicole Martin (Michael), Natalie Light (Justin Webb), Angela Mathewson (Dustin), Andrew McDaniel (Danielle); granddaughter in law Tara McDaniel; Nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, his grandson Todd McDaniel and numerous family members and friends.
Funeral Services for Gene will be Saturday September 30th, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, 2pm. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
