Eugene Earl Williams, 86, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away February 7, 2019. He was born March 27, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Leonard and Lona “Loni” Williams; he was the last surviving child of 5 siblings.
Though he was born in Indiana, Eugene spent a large portion of his life in West Virginia helping his family run their businesses. In 1950, Mable Collins caught his eye. She was several years his senior so Eugene opted to tell a small fib about his age to win her over. It worked out perfectly for the pair as they spent 69 beautiful years together raising their two sons and serving their community. He was deeply committed to helping those in need; fulfilling his own personal ministry of restocking local food pantries two times a week for many years. He believed in serving those who were less fortunate or down in their luck, with not only food but also with shelter and solid life advice. We can all learn a thing or two about selfless-service from Eugene; he was a blessing to many. He was a retired General Motors employee where he worked as a master die welder; a career he was proud to excel at. Son, Wilbur, says dad can be summed up in on sentence, “John Wayne was an actor, my father was the real deal.”
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Lona; three brothers and one sister. Surviving to cherish his memory are wife of 69 years, Mabel Williams (Collins); sons, Wilbur L. (Sharon Sue) Williams and Jeffrey E. Williams; 5 loving grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
All are welcome to visit Tuesday, February 12 from 4-7 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park, 425 N. Holt Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46222. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, February 13 at 10 AM at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Floral Park cemetery immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations in Eugene’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at PO Box 100, Department 42, Memphis, Tennessee 38148 or online at www.stjude.org.
