Ernest F. Engel, 93, of Fishers, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 6, 2021.  He was born September 6, 1927, in Erie, PA, the son of the late Ernest E. and Ella E. (Pollock) Engel.  He married Elinor H. Engel on March 2, 1949.  She preceded him in passing on March 8, 2018.

Ernie retired as a foreman with McCarty Printing in Erie, PA after 45 years of dedicated service.  He was a pillar in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Erie serving as financial secretary for many years.  He was later a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chattanooga, TN and then attended Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Fishers, Indiana. He was an avid bowler, spending his spare time at Eastland Lanes in Erie.  Upon retirement, Ernie and Elinor loved travelling in their RV to Florida and spending time at the Brookdale Campgrounds in Meadville, PA with their friends Connie and Ed Smorey.  He was pretty handy at fixing things and loved working on and helping others with home projects and volunteered at Habitat for Humanity in Chattanooga.  He enjoyed working crossword and jigsaw puzzles and even framed some of his more memorable jigsaw puzzles!  He was a “competitive” card player, especially euchre, and would never pass up a chance to play with family and friends. While in Indiana he was a resident of Hamilton Trace Senior Living Center, Fishers where he received loving care and support.   He was a loving and committed husband, father, grandfather and brother dedicated to God, his family and church.

He is survived by two children, Jackie Gehrlein and Jerry (Lily) Engel; six grandchildren, Jason (Krista) Gehrlein, Bethany (Marcus) Colson, Kevin (Stephanie) Engel, and Amanda (Phil Richman) Engel, Ami (Aaron) Iaquinta and Robin (Brad Lerch) Wollschleger; seven great grandchildren, Hunter, Landon, Gionna, Gavin, Sophia, Jacob and Delaney; and a sister, Beatrice Ward.  He was preceded in passing by his son-in-law, William Gehrlein; sister, Doris Sorensen; and brother, John Engel.
