Erma Feiler, 101, of Indianapolis passed away on December 14, 2016.
She was born on January 26, 1915 in Paragon, Indiana to the late Walter James and Daisy Maude Fisher. Erma graduated from Paragon High School in 1931, and received her RN from City Hospital in Indianapolis in 1936. She married Alex Frank Feiler January 1, 1939 in Indianapolis. Alex was a member of the Army Air Corps and the two of them lived all over during his time of service. She was a charter member of Franklin Road Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was very active in the Women’s Circle. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Oasis where she attended many functions and took many trips. She retired from Community Hospital in 1982. She loved sewing, knitting and any type of hand and needle work. She enjoyed gardening half of her one acre yard and canning her fruits and vegetables. She was a voracious reader and loved puzzles of all types. After retirement she traveled with her children and grandchildren always keeping up with the group. She spent the last 7 winters in Siesta Key, Florida. She was a wonderful neighbor and “go-to person” for any medical type issues; from pulling teeth to mending cuts and scrapes, and even delivered a neighbors baby during a heavy snow storm. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her children; Mary Ann Kaplan, Judith Alice Hain (Dennis), James Walter Feiler (Kyong Bun), her grandchildren; Matthew Kaplan (Amanda), Michelle Abel (Dennis), Christopher Hain, Patricia Baxter (Edward), Michael Feiler, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Cecil Vance Fisher.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Friday, December 16th, from 5:00-8:00pm at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis. A funeral service will take place 12:00pm Saturday, December 17th, at Franklin Road Baptist Church, 51 N. Franklin Road, Indianapolis, with an hour of visitation prior to the service at the church.
