Eriks V. Krumkalns, age 95, died on December 27, 1922. He was born in Latvia on December 10, 1927 to his parents, Anna and Andrejs Krumkalns.
Having escaped the second Soviet Russian occupation of Latvia and having spent some years in Displaced Persons’ camps in Germany, Eriks joined his parents in Indianapolis in 1951. Having completed high school in Kleinkoetz, Germany, he continued his education and received BS degree in Chemistry from Indiana University, Bloomington (1956) and Master of Sciences from Butler University (1961).
Eriks was employed by Eli Lilly Company, Indianapolis and Greenfield, for 33 years until retiring as Research Scientist in 1990. He has co-authored several scientific publications and was co-author of 23 patents.
Eriks was a member of American Chemical Society and various Latvian organizations, ALA, Latvian Ev. Luth. Church, DV ASV, Latvian Welfare Assoc. DV and Latvian Community Center of Indianapolis. For several years he served on the Boards of the Latvian Welfare Assoc. DV and the Latvian Community Center. Eriks was a reporter for the Latvian newspaper “Laiks” until his retirement.
Eriks is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ligita Krumkalns; and son, Andris Krumkalns. He was preceded in death by his son, Eric Dag and his parents; and survived by family and friends in US and Latvia.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2022 from 10-11am at Flanner Buchanan – Broad Ripple with a funeral service immediately following. Eriks will be laid to rest in Floral Park Cemetery.
