EMMETTWILSON ATWATER was born in Jackson, Tennessee onMay 15, 1918 to Griffin Atwater andIda Hutcherson Atwater. Emmett was one of 13 siblings. All preceded Emmett in death. Emmettwas a graduate of Merry High School and continued his studies at Lane Collegeprior to moving to Evansville, IN. Emmett returned to Jackson briefly tomarry his sweetheart, Thelma Smith. Together, they resided in Evansville wheretheir 4 children were born. They livedin Evansville for sixty plus years until he and Thelma moved to Indianapolis tolive with their daughters.
Four important areas of life for EMMETT:
SPIRITUAL: Long timefaithful member of Line Street Church of Christ, teacher, preacher, andelder. Member of Kingsley TerraceChurch of Christ since moving to Indianapolis.
PERSONAL: Living a life for Christ, loving and providing for hiswife and children, rearing his children with emphasis on spiritual developmentand positive values, inspiring young people as a whole at Line Street Church ofChrist and emphasized the importance of education.
GOALS: Encourage, and motivate others for Christ. Instrumental in acquiring land and propertydevelopment for Line Street Church of Christ.
CAREER: Shipyard laborer during WWII, L&N Railroad employee,retiring after 30 years of service.
EMMETT departed this life on Tuesday, July11 2017 at the amazing age of 99 years 1 month and 26 days. To cherish his memory, EMMETTleaves his wife, Thelma; son, Terry (Sandra); 3 daughters, Sandra Minor(James), Harolyn Torain (Stephen), and Aurore Johnson (Robert). He was also blessed with 7 grandchildren, 17great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and hisKingsley Terrace Church of Christ and Line Street Church of Christ family.
EMMETT spent his final years of liferesiding at Hooverwood where he received exceptional care. Daily visits from his wife and childrenbrought him much joy. His legacy ofspiritual devotion to God, love for his family and mankind will always be withus and will be a continuous source of comfort and peace.

A Homegoing Service will be held on Tuesday, July 18 at 12 PM at the Kingsley Terrace Church of Christ, with visitation from 10 AM – 12 PM. Entombment will be in Washington Park North Cemetery.
