Emerito Baluja was born in Havana, Cuba on October 12, 1931. He passed away at 91 in his home in Indianapolis, Indiana surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 of his siblings. He immigrated from Cuba in the late 1960s to Chicago, Illinois, where he worked for Rand McNally and would later work for and retire from Vapor Corporation. He met his wife in Chicago, Illinois in the mid-1970s and they would go on to have 2 children, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. In the early 2000s, he briefly moved to Orlando, Florida where he made many meaningful connections and enjoyed time away from the snow. He is survived by his wife, 2 children, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway at 2950 N. High School Road in Indianapolis. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church at 6000 W. 34th St. He will be laid to rest in West Ridge Park Cemetery, 9295 W. 21st St, following the Funeral Mass.
