Elsie Joan Summitt

Elsie Joan Summitt, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Joan was born in Bloomington, Indiana on April 1, 1928 to William and Agnes Rumple. Joan was a woman who was as sweet and as kind as they come; many people who had the pleasure of knowing her would certainly call her “a hoot”! if she was not watching her gameshows or busy solving puzzles she was making everyone laugh and smile by wearing silly glasses or acting like a kitty cat for the grand children! Joan was even being a goofball when she would play Yahtzee with her friends and family. At a young age, Joan learned to yodel. This would be something she would continue doing for the rest of her days. If you were a close friend or family member of hers who was expecting a baby, you would most certainly be getting a custom hand-embroidered baby blanket from Joan! She would sew and repair many things, but it was embroidery that she excelled in.
Joan was the proud mother of nine children: Catherine Jane, Marlin Matthew, Kendrick Ray, Dallas, Carolyn Kay, Darrell Duane, Nyla June, Delores Mae and Brenda Jean. She has 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 9 great grand children.
