Elnora Evelyn Noe, born August 23, 1928 in Evansville, IN,passed away June 1, 2017. She was affectionately called “Ellie” by those whoknew and loved her. Ellie was called “Grammy” by her adopted family. A fewmonths after her birth in Evansville, her family relocated to Indianapolis tobe close to her grandparents, who would eventually raise Ellie.

Aftergraduation from Manuel High School, Ellie was employed by Pitman-Moore Company.It would become a division of the Dow Chemical Company where Ellie would beemployed for nearly 45 years. Her career was in employee and communitycommunications. This job would allow her to be involved in many organizationsand meet many well-known people of Indiana and the United States. Ellie lovedevery day of her job. Ellie was active in many community projects and clubsincluding United Way, Junior Achievement, and the Indianapolis Chamber ofCommerce Corporate Affairs Committee. At the time of her death she was stillactive in the Zonta Club of Indianapolis, the Dow Retiree groups, AmericanBusiness Association, the Women’s Department Club, Women in Communications andThe Propylaeum Historic Foundation. She attended Connection Pointe ChristianChurch in Brownsburg, where she resided.

Ellie found enjoyment in life’s simplepleasures. She will be remembered fondly for her generosity to family andfriends, appreciation and love of family and friends and of life. Ellie lovedto travel. She traveled the world and the United States. Although Ellie neverhad a family of her own, she found love and family in the Byers/Wharff familythat would informally adopt and love Ellie. This family included Phoebe andJohn Byers (adopted daughter and son-in-law); grandchildren, Matt and TonjaWharff, Stacy and Travis Stonebraker, Chris and Kesha Wharff, Megan and NickMillikan, and Aaron Wharff; great-grandchildren, Caleb Cooley, Jennifer, Haileyand Kaden Wharff, Luke, Cali and Lanie Stonebraker, Valerie, Khloyee andJoscelyn Wharff, Kaleb Mahoney, and Lily and Colton Millikan.

At Ellie’s requestthere will be no visitation or service. There will be a celebration of lifeservice at a later time. She will be entombed at Washington Park NorthCemetery. Memorial gifts may be made in Ellie’s name to the Indianapolis Zoo,the Indianapolis Humane Society, or the charity of the donor’s choice.Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan- Washington ParkNorth.
