Ellwood Woody' Aaron Oehlert

April 8, 1943 — February 7, 2017

Born on April 8, 1943, Woody was an only child who grew up in Nebraska on acreage, with woods and a creek in his backyard. He enjoyed ice skating, playing hockey, and exploring the outdoors.

He started playing the saxophone when he was eight years old, and he continued playing reed instruments throughout his school years. He even played in a travel band in multiple states for a period of time.

He was always an athlete, playing football in high school and baseball in college. He transferred from the University of Nebraska to the University of Berkley.

Enjoying the west coast, Woody ventured to southern California and became a licensed surveyor. He settled in San Clemente where he got married and had three children, Molly, Aaron and Jenny. Woody continued his surveying career for over 40 years in California as well as Texas, where he met and married his current wife, Barbara, in 1998. Woody and Barbara moved to northern California in 2001 and enjoyed a busy work and social life.

Woody was an avid and accomplished tennis player, playing twice a week and served as president of his tennis club. He also enjoyed bowling and was active in his church at Resurrection Ministries, where he served on the board. He and Barbara hosted and attended many parties and events. They vacationed, traveling to Canada, Germany, the Bahamas, Alaska, & Mexico. They went on cruises and visited relatives and friends throughout the country for weeks at a time.

He will be greatly missed. The wonderful memories he helped create, and knowing he is with God and others who have gone before him, will have a way of providing comfort to everyone.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, February 16 in Flanner and Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite) with visitation 11 AM until the time of service.
