Ellen Record McDaniel passed unexpectedly on December 8, 2021. She was born on August 1, 1950 in Indianapolis. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Morris A. Record and Mary Alice Jay Record. She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Mike McDaniel. In addition, she is survived by her sisters Miriam Eggers (Gary), Marty Hadley (Jim), and Kay Carter (Wayne).
Ellen’s career included work with several prominent former Indiana Republican elected officials, including House Ways and Means Chairman Rep. John Hart, Lt. Gov. John Mutz and the campaigns of Attorney General Steve Carter and Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman. She also worked in development for the Indiana Republican State Central Committee and the GEO Foundation. She was a past president of the Indiana Federation of Republican Women. Ellen was awarded the state’s highest honor, the Sagamore of the Wabash, by Gov. Mike Pence.
Ellen loved her volunteer work at the food bank at Second Presbyterian Church and cradling babies as a nursery volunteer at St. Luke Catholic Church. She had a fondness for West Highland White Terriers. She adored her deceased “Westie” Kinsey and current four-legged family members Molly and Mac. Ellen’s quick, dry wit, easy laugh and generous heart will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at North United Methodist Church, 3808 N Meridian St, Indianapolis, IN 46208, on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 3 pm. The church is requiring that all guests wear masks.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ellen may be made to The Arc of Indiana, 143 W. Market St. #200, Indianapolis, IN 46204 or Dollars for Scholars, MSD of Decatur Township, 5275 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46221, where Ellen’s mother taught for 46 years.
