Ellen Irene Wright

Ellen Irene (Gothard) Wright, 86, died on January 13, 2023. Ellen married John Elmer
Wright (deceased August 6, 2017), her husband of nearly 61 years, on August 19, 1956.
Ellen met John at the Indiana University Bookstore where they both worked while
attending I. U. After marrying John, Ellen devoted most of her time for the next 20 years
to raising son Mark and daughter Martha. She reentered the workforce and worked for
the 1980 Census then in insurance and banking. Ellen was a Christian and a member of
the Eastside church of Christ where she taught children’s and ladies’ classes. She also
was a Cub Scout troop mother, a volunteer at Easterseals Crossroads, the Florida
College Midwest Summer Camp, and Eastridge Elementary. She is survived by her
children Mark and Martha (Mike) Mettler, grandsons, Matthew Wright and Max Clark
and former daughter-in-law Susan Wright. Funeral services were private. As Ellen loved
cats, the family suggests memorials to Indy Neighborhood Cats.
