Elizabeth Louise (Hagedorn) Mattingly
Louise Mattingly, loving mother and wife, passed away on May 1, 2022 at Compassus/St. Vincent Hospice Center in Indianapolis. She was born September 28, 1928, on a farm in rural Perry County, Indiana to Oliver William and Clara Rose (Peter) Hagedorn.
Louise was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband William (Bill) Robert Mattingly, Jr.; her parents, her sisters Theresa Hagedorn, Irene Gelarden and Dorothy Beckman; her brothers Albert, Edward and John Hagedorn; sisters-in-law Clara Mae Hagedorn, Virginia, Marjorie and Lynn Broderick; brothers-in-law, Benjamin Mattingly, Merl Gelarden, Don Beckman, Carl Waninger and Lawrence, Charles and Bernard Broderick; and grandson Bret O. Mattingly, Jr.
Louise is survived by her sons: William (Maureen), Peter (Ceil), Thomas (Debra), Todd (Lisa), Bret (Toni) Mattingly; daughters: Kristine (James) Schroeder, Mary (Stan) LaBuz and Theresa (Dwight) Stinson; 26 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren; brother Joe (Judy) Hagedorn and sister-in-law Faye Hagedorn.
Louise was a graduate of Tell City High School and St. Mary’s School of Nursing, Evansville. After graduation, Louise was an exemplary nurse for 50 years working in many of the Indianapolis area hospitals. Louise was an accomplished knitter, competitive golfer, enthusiastic birder, worldwide traveler, and faithful Catholic. A lifelong learner, Louise began painting lessons at 74 and completed 33 works of art before retiring her paint brushes.
Louise was an unceasing inspiration to family and friends. Her balance of care and love for family, professional life in nursing, lifelong friendships, and dedication to her hobbies was carried out with a positive attitude and a zest for life second to none.
The family wishes to thank Mark and all the staff at Grand Brook Zionsville for their dedication and care to our beloved mother these past three years.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, May 4 at Flanner Buchanan-Zionsville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 5 at 11 am at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Additional visitation will be from 10 am until time of Mass. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry or the Indiana Nurses’ Foundation – Nurses in Need Fund
