Elizabeth J. Sudler

Mrs. Elizabeth Clingman Sudler, 94, known to several generations of family and friends as “ Granny” died peacefully in her residence at Clear Vista Lake Health Campus late Thursday afternoon.  Elizabeth was born in Richmond, Indiana November 11, 1925, the daughter of Theodore and Ethel Clingman. She graduated from Centerville, IN high school and was married to her husband of 62 years, Fred Sudler Jr., in 1946.  A dedicated wife and mother of 5 children, she successfully managed her working life while also being devoted to her family which grew to include many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.  Having grown up on a farm, Elizabeth had a passion for animals of all kinds, and would be quick to nurse back to health the animals that found their way into her backyard. Elizabeth had a bright and energetic laugh and was known for her ability to sense when someone needed help. She touched many lives with her loving kindness and passion for life.  Elizabeth lived independently since the passing of her husband Fred in 2008, taking pride in caring for her home and family, usually refusing offers of assistance. During her 89th year, she finally agreed to “retire” and enjoy the less strenuous lifestyle offered by an assisted living facility.  “Liz” is survived by five children; Stephen T Sudler (Andra), Carole Ann Starkey, Betty Lindquist, Fred Sudler III (Karen), and James Sudler, plus 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren. She was very proud of them all, and considered them her greatest accomplishments.  A family visitation and service for Mrs. Sudler will be held at 1:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday at the Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Home in Speedway, Indiana with burial alongside her husband at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, IN.
