Elizabeth “Betty” (Warner) Brown, 88, formerly of Zionsville, passed away June 30, 2020. She was born on March 30, 1932 in Indianapolis to the late Martin Clyde and Mary Kathryn (Smyth) Warner. She graduated from Shortridge High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in bacteriology from Purdue University.
She spent the early years of her adult life as a mother, homemaker, Cub Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, VBS leader/director and active member of Parish Park Christian Church in Marion, IL. Later, to help send three sons through college she began a career as a lab technician with the Illinois Division of Public Water Supply. Retiring after a 15-year career she moved to Zionsville, IN and began another 15-year career with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Water Testing.
Upon her move to Zionsville she became an active member of Traders Point Christian Church where she volunteered in the nursery, helped with refreshments, and participated in the activities of the Believers Sunday School class. She always enjoyed sewing, particularly as a grandmother when she could sew for her grandchildren. Throughout her life, continuing many years into retirement, Betty was a tireless gardener, always tending beautiful flowers around her home and plenty of fresh strawberries and vegetables.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother James Warner of Indianapolis in 2012 and by former husband David Brown in 2011. She is survived by sister, Judy Schmutte of Zionsville, IN; sons, Kenneth (wife Dolores Schwartz) of Aubrey, TX, Michael (wife Patricia) of Bethlehem, PA and Keith (wife Patricia Flores-Brown) of Springfield, PA, six nieces, three nephews, five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services: For family only, Flanner-Buchanan Funeral Home, with burial in Washington Park North Cemetery
