Eleanor Cole Moore

Eleanor Cole Moore, 95, Kalamazoo, MI, passed away February 25, 2025. She was born on March 16, 1929 in Indianapolis, IN to Roy Cole Anderson and Margaret (Louthan) Anderson.

She lived in Indianapolis until she graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1947. She was proud to have attended DePauw University until she transferred to Indiana University to pursue Library Science. She graduated from IU in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Library Science. She was employed by Indianapolis Public Library as a children’s Librarian after graduation. She later worked in Muncie IN as a Librarian while John began his practice of medicine.

Eleanor was a proud wife and mother of four children and a stay-at-home mom. She viewed these as her primary roles. After her children were raised, she assisted in John’s office, until his retirement.

She was a woman of faith and an elder for many years at Faith Presbyterian Church, Kokomo Indiana. She was later awarded the Most Outstanding Church Library award by the church and synagogue Library Association for the creation of New Hope Presbyterian Church’s library in Fishers IN as a volunteer. 

She was a 50-year member of P.E.O. and was active in Howard County Medical Auxiliary. Eleanor was a volunteer at Sunny Side Elementary School in Indianapolis, IN, where she assisted students struggling to learn to read. 

She was a life-long avid gardener, always enjoying “having her hands in the dirt” and caring for her flowers. Her garden was her happy place.

Additionally, she and John enjoyed living and boating on Geist Reservoir as well as participating with the power squadron and cruising on Lake Michigan.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and husband John M. Moore, M.D. after 62 years of marriage.

 Survivors include her children, Margaret E. (Peggy) Hunt (Randy), Katherine L. (Kathy) McCain (Paul), John Michael (Mike) Moore (Mary), Elizabeth A. (Beth) Miller (Mike), and grandchildren Scott Hunt (Tiffinie), Shaun Ray, Amy Hunt, Eric Hunt(Jenni), Cole McCain, Amelia Miller, Ian Moore, Natalie Miller, Katrina Miller, and great grandchildren Caleb Goldsby (Cheyenne), Gabriel Ray, Xander Hunt, Liam Ray, Eddie Hunt, Declan Ray, Evelyn Hunt, Ivy Ray, Ellie Hunt, and Nolan Hunt.
