Eileen Rager-Owen, 95, Indianapolis, died peacefully in her sleep on November 7, 2021. She was born on November 14, 1925 to Larry and Margaret Cashman in Kokomo, IN. She graduated from St. Mary of the Springs Academy in June 1946. She was married to Russell Paul Rager in Columbus, OH on November 18, 1948, until his death in 1982. Eileen and Russell had 8 children and raised them in Indianapolis, IN as members of St. Monica Catholic Church. She was an active member of the church and the school, which all 8 children attended.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing the piano for her family, crossword puzzles and needlepoint. She also enjoyed plays, musicals and shows of all sorts, and loved to travel with her family. Trips took her to many different states, as well as London, Paris, Scotland, and Russia. Her favorite time was spent hosting family gatherings on holidays, birthdays, and special occasions.
She remarried on June 1, 1987 to William Van Brocklin Owen, from Columbus, OH, until his death in 2019.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Eugene Cashman; and her son, Gregory Paul Rager. Eileen is survived by her daughters, Valerie Kinsey, Mary McKenzie (John), Ann Rager, Kathleen Beatty (Marshall) and Alice Hoots (Jeff); and her sons, Brent Rager (Diane) and Matthew Rager (Melody). Eileen was blessed with the love of an extended family of 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday November 13, 2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, where a funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indy Alzheimer’s Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/ForGrandmaEileen
