Edwin S. Mcclain, M.D.

Edwin S. McClain, M.D., passed away February 15, 2017. Dr. McClain was born on August 23, 1921, in Franklin, IN, to his parents Fred E. McClain and Martha Stanton McClain. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Doris Jean Sanders McClain, and his wife of 6 years, Nancy Harris McClain.

Ed graduated from Franklin High School, Franklin College, and Indiana University School of Medicine. He enjoyed 24 years in the private practice of obstetrics and gynecology. After his private practice years, he was appointed Director of St. Vincent OB/GYN Hospital residency program teaching residents and junior medical students. At his full retirement in 1991, Indiana University named him an Emeritus Professor.

Ed enthusiastically followed all IU sports teams, especially football and basketball, Franklin College sports, and any sport his grandchildren played.

He is survived by his three daughters, Connie Lewis (Dave), Nancy Moore (Mark), and Sally Sterley (Dirk), seven grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12 noon Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to East 91st Street Christian Church, 6049 East 91st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
