Edward M. Meyer

Edward M. Meyer, age 86, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Wednesday morning, April 19, 2023 at his residence in Indianapolis.

Edward was born on March 29, 1937 in Gary, Indiana to his father, Alvin W. Meyer, and his mother, Ruby V. (Reimers) Meyer.  He married Deanna Gail Crawford on July 27, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hobart, Indiana.  His wife, Deanna, preceded him in death on June 16, 2021.

Edward is survived by his six children: Peg (husband Clay) Salmela, Dianna Meyer, David (wife Jeanette) Meyer, Patty Porter, Debbie Lee, and Greg (wife Kim) Meyer. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  He has one surviving brother, Gene (wife Diana) Meyer.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Alvin, Don, and Warren.

Edward enjoyed many things throughout his life.  Of most importance was spending time with his wife and family, whom he loved and cared for very much.  He enjoyed playing softball, and he LOVED the Chicago Cubs.  Go Cubs Go! He attended the Indianapolis 500 for over 50 years, first attending in 1968.  The Indy 500 experience grew to be a family tradition over these years.  Edward was Lutheran in Faith and was very involved in his church, Trinity Lutheran Church, Indianapolis.  While a long-term member at Trinity, he held several church offices. He was also very involved on the parochial school board.  After being employed as a credit union service sales representative with several companies, he was inducted into the Indiana Credit Union Hall of Fame in September of 2000.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, located at 10722 E. Washington Street – Indianapolis, IN – 46229.

There will be an additional visitation on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, located at 6513 W 300 S – New Palestine, Indiana – 46163.

His funeral service will follow on at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church.

Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery where Edward will be laid to rest with his wife Deanna.
