Edith Smith,

82, of Indianapolis, passed away on June 29, 2019. She was born on December 22, 1936 in Gate City, Virginia as the daughter of William and Georgia Jones. She was raised in Oliver Springs, Tennessee, moving to Indianapolis in 1964.

Edith retired from Waffle House in 1996, where she worked for 20 years. She enjoyed reading books and going to the casino with her sisters. She had the heart of gold and provided everything she could for her family and friends, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Anytime one would walk in the room her face would light up. There was never a dull moment when she was around, from the times of holidays, to the times around the poker table and to the times of lunch with family and friends. You will be missed by many, but forever in our hearts.

Edith is survived by her sister Linda Brandenburg; her children Dale Markland (Barbara), Karen Wilson (Tom), Marcella Faircloth (Lee); her grandchildren Jenny Markland, Joshua Markland, David Markland, Brian Markland, Robert Wilson, Aric Koster, Tiffany Wilson, Megan Ketchum (Christopher), and Tyler Faircloth; and her eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Georgia Jones; her brothers and sisters James Jones, Wilma West, Gene Jones, Geraldine Smith, Pauline Burris, Edward Jones, and Anita Jones; her son Gary Markland; and her grandson Raymond Markland.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, from 3-5pm at Flanner Buchanan-Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229. There will be a service following at 5 pm-also at the funeral home.
