Earl William Salisbury

March 17, 1940 — January 28, 2025

Indianapolis, Indiana

Earl William Salisbury, age 84, departed this life on January 28, 2025. Earl was predeceased by his parents Roger Wilson Riley Salisbury and Eugenia (Brannock) Salisbury, son Jason Salisbury, and sister Sarah Coe (Salisbury) Sowa. He is survived by his son Joshua Salisbury; four Grandchildren Rachel, Antonia, Noah and Hunter; sister Carol Lee (Salisbury) Colley (Karl); and special friends Donna White and Barbara Gentry.

Earl was born on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1940, and grew up in Gary, Indiana where he attended Horace Mann High School – he loved to say he was from “Da Region”; his family moved to Chesterton, IN and Earl graduated from Chesterton High School in 1958. After two years of college, Earl entered the emerging computer field. The US Army interrupted Earl’s life for active duty from 1963 - 1965. He then went to work for the RCA computer division, moving to Indianapolis, IN in 1966.

Earl’s endeavors included being in sales as in independent contractor; he had a nutrition business; achieved the level of an Amway Pearl Direct Distributor; and later he worked for the Wayne Township Assessors office as an assessor and appraiser. The past several years he has enjoyed travelling in his motor home with Donna. He loved airplanes; attended the EAA Oshkosh airshow many times; he was the Grand Marshall at the Gaspee Days Parade in Rhode Island (2014); and loved camping by the beach.

His interests and hobbies included: Genealogy and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Clarence Cook Chapter. Earl was active in the Republican Party and was elected as a City-County Councilor for Marion County, Indiana (2004-2007). Earl was sought after as a Humorous Public Speaker and he was a Distinguished Toastmaster through the Checkered Flag Toastmaster Club, Speedway, Indiana. He also was an active member in the Mercedes Benz Car Club.

Earl celebrated life by making people laugh, wearing eccentric outfits, always had a joke to tell, and he loved to dance especially with his special friend, Donna White. He was known around Carmel, IN as the Dancing Man or the Captain because of the cap he loved wear.

He will be missed for his wit, the joy and humor he always shared.

We would like to thank Luminary Hospice Nurses and the staff at Rittenhouse Village at Northside for all of the care and help they provided for Earl.
