Dr. Andrew Stephen Hintz, 45, of Avon, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 9, 2022. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family. Born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, he moved to Terre Haute, Indiana to go to graduate school where he met his wife Allison, marrying her August 20, 2005, at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. They then moved to Avon where they remained to date.
Drew was a local community leader, active as Cubmaster for his twin daughters Sabrina and Samantha’s Cub Scout Pack 123 and Assistant Scoutmaster for both his son Cam’s BSA Troop 304 and daughter Callie’s BSA Troop 331. He is a former Assistant District Commissioner for the Hou Koda/Five Creeks BSA District in Hendricks County, Indiana.
Drew was an active member at Avon United Methodist Church currently serving in the church leadership as Church Council Chair, previously as At-large Church Council Member, and Outreach Committee Chair. A former soccer and women’s lacrosse referee, Drew led the Indiana State Women’s Lacrosse Referee Board as President and Vice President from 2010-2016. He also coached women’s lacrosse teams at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Drew shared his love of nature, our country, and the local community with his family and friends. He recently completed the week-long hiking trip to Philmont Scout Ranch with his son Cam, Scout Camp with oldest daughter Callie, and was actively organizing for seasonal trips to Washington Township Park with Sabrina and Samantha’s Cub Scout Pack to introduce the scouts to the cycle of life. Drew’s family loved the Pinewood Derby and together furiously competed each year.
Drew was a two-time graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Indiana (B.S.E.E. 1998; M.S.E.E. 2003) and member of Rose-Hulman Drama Club and Choir, where he met and fell in love with Allison. Drew was a member of Iota Delta Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha and after graduation served on the Chapter Alumni Board. He was awarded the chapter’s Outstanding Alumnus in 2002. In 2011, he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering from University of Texas at Dallas. At the time of his passing, he worked for Scientia, LLC in Bloomington, Indiana as Senior Software Developer.
Drew was always available to help anyone in need, particularly with his talents as an engineer. He had an amazing, quick-witted, dry sense of humor that he shared with friends and family. Drew never left a room without making sure someone laughed, even if it was only himself.
Drew was also an organ donor who selflessly offered himself so that others may live.
Drew leaves behind his loving wife Allison of 17 years, son Cameron, age 15, and daughters Callie, age 13, Samantha and Sabrina, age 9; parents Ken and Sue, brother and sister-in-law Chris and Tausha, in-laws John and Stacey, Rebecca and David, Gwen and Michael, 4 nephews, and a niece.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2022, at Avon United Methodist Church, 6850 E US Highway 36, Avon, IN 46123.
