Douglas Lee Patterson

Douglas Lee Patterson, age 82, of Carmel, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Doug was born April 25, 1942, in Muncie, Indiana to Paul Jackson and Virginia Elaine (Peck) Patterson.

On January 18th, Doug and his wife Barbara celebrated 50 years of marriage. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife; his six children, Kim Patterson, Kathy Patterson Vrabeck, Cindi Patterson Aaron (Tony), Terri Patterson White (Doug), Todd Dillon, and John Dillon; fourteen grandchildren, Miles, Zoe, Alex, Griffin, Rachel, Natalie, Emma, Eleanor, Reilly, Katie, Megan, Hannah, Michael, and Brooke; his brother Dan Patterson; and his beloved dog Annie. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David.

Doug was a Muncie Central Bearcat and completed undergraduate and graduate degrees at Ball State University. He began his teaching career at Muncie Central, where he also coached the tennis team. Doug taught economics at Ball State for two decades, including teaching economic courses on military bases in Spain and Germany in 1973. Post his college teaching career, Doug was a successful entrepreneur and business owner of Enduron Corporation in Thorntown, Indiana. He invented the "Snow-Ease" shovel, which he delighted in sharing with family and friends.

Doug loved racquet sports and golf and played them until the end of his life. He enjoyed fifty years of membership at the Carmel Racquet Club and Ulen Country Club. He was an avid reader, cook, nature-lover, and sports better. On and off the court he was known for his kindness, generosity, and empathy for others.

A celebration of Doug's life will be held on Saturday, February 15th, from 11:30am to 2pm on Court 7 at the Carmel Racquet Club.
