Douglas Owens Akins

Douglas Akins, 72, of Brownsburg, died at 7:43 a.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017, at IU Health West in Avon.

Doug was born August 4, 1944 in Evansville, IN, the son of the late Jesse and Edna (Murphy) Akins. Doug’s wife, Barbara (Bobbi) of 54 years survives.
Doug was an avid golfer and was happiest when he was on the golf course with his son and golfing partners, Richard Swain, Jim Gore and Reggie Graham. He also loved watching TV, doing anything Colts football related, watching NASCAR and spending time with his family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan 2950 N. High School Rd Speedway with Dan Novreske officiating. Calling will be from 3:00 until service time.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Bobbi); a son, Mark (Kit) Akins; daughters, Kim Love, Glenda Akins; grandchildren, Nikki, Matt, Donald, Whitney, Kaydee, Max and Rikki Ann; great grandchildren Alex, Madison, Gage, Oaklyn and Sirius; a brother, Tony Akins; sisters, Beverly (Richard) Bennett, Sheila (Wallace) Thomas, Sharon (Kent) Jarrett; sisters in law, Karen Howes and Mary Jo Estes; mother in law Mary Karn; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Danielle Akins; sisters, Judy (Jim) Conger, Peggy Jarrett and Myra Akins.
