Douglas McLeod Morton, born August 17, 1939, in London, England, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024, at the age of 85. A graduate of Roan School for Boys, Douglas pursued his passion for pharmacy at Chelsea School of Pharmacy, where he earned an honors degree and later a PhD. It was on the first day of college classes that he met the love of his life, his wife, Andrea, to whom he was married for 60 years.
After completing his postdoctoral work at the National Institutes of Health in Washington D.C, Douglas dedicated over 33 years to Eli Lilly and Company starting in 1967 in England and then relocating to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1972, where he became the Vice President of Research. He retired in 2000 and then went on to form his own consulting company.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed a fulfilling life divided between Zionsville, Indiana and Sanibel Island, Florida. He served as Commodore of the Captiva Island Yacht Club as well as traveling the world with his wife and spending time in England with family and friends. An avid gardener, he loved to spend hours in the garden. He enjoyed playing and watching sports and excelled at tennis and soccer. He coached both his sons’ teams at the youth level, and he was a devoted lifelong supporter of the Arsenal Gunners Soccer team in England.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter Pryde Morton and Eleanor Mary Morton and his son Bruce McLeod Morton (Kimberlee). He is survived by his wife Andrea Helen Morton (nee Micheals), his daughter Caroline Helen Morton and his son Stuart Michael Morton (Amy), and grandchildren Peter Morton, Charlie Morton, Kate Morton and Cooper Morton.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 11:30 am at Cripe Pavilion, Coxhall Gardens, 11677 Towne Rd, Carmel, IN 46032. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. www.ALZ.org
