Douglas Edgar Kenner

June 3, 1928 — December 2, 2024

Indianapolis

Edgar Kenner was born June 3, 1928, to his loving parents Ephraim Chesterfield Kenner, Sr., and Allie George Hoosier Kenner. He transitioned from his earthly home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 2, 2024. His parents raised him to love the Lord. He exemplified this attribute by his love and affection for his parents, family, and friends. Edgar’s desire to dress well was exhibited, even in his work attire.

Edgar was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Joseph Allen Kenner, Sr.-IN, Brenda (George) Warfield-IN, Mary Elizabeth Kenner-IN, Danny Kenner-IN, Isaiah (Shirley-deceased) Kenner-IN and Abraham (Janice-deceased) Kenner-OH and his bonus children James Green-IN, Hazel Carter-IN and Frederick Green, Sr.-IN.

He completed his early education in the Howard County Indiana Kokomo School System.

Douglas Kenner met and married his first sweetheart, Jo Nell Bratton from Bowling Green, Ky., and to this union, they were blessed with five daughters: Jo Ellen (Doyle) Porter-AL, Kathi Kenner-IN, Stephanie Ann (John) Guy-AZ, Crystal Kenner - CA and Leatrice Joy Kenner-AZ. Their marriage dissolved after 16 years. He then met his new love, Eula Mae Hooker Green from Greenville, SC. They were married until the Lord called her home in April 1994.

His work ethic was instilled in him by his parents and passed down to his girls. He had to stay busy. He was employed by Hawkins Construction Company, as a Carpenter, Wishard General Hospital as a Security Officer, and held several positions at McKinney’s Transmission. He retired from General Motors, Chevrolet – Truck and Bus Plant after 40-plus years. His last position was Inspector, which he held for many years. He was 79 years old when he retired, but still had a desire to stay active, so he took on odd jobs like Bus Monitor for the Indianapolis public school system. He quickly determined that it was not the best fit for him, or the children. His girls were all grown and had their own families, but he was determined to still work 2 and 3 jobs at a time. He was affectionately nicknamed “Weather Bird” because weather conditions would not be an obstacle from going to work. He really missed working daily alongside his GM friends, so we tried to keep him active traveling.

He leaves to cherish the memories of him by, his daughters. His siblings: Queen Esther (Horace) Hollier-CA, Marilyn (Roosevelt-deceased) Carter-IN, Delores (Charles) Graham-CA, David M. Kenner-IN, Ephraim C. Kenner, Jr.-AL (Jacqueline-deceased), James Kenner-IN (Elaine-deceased), Robert A. (Beverly) Kenner-GA. His Grandchildren: Nichelle Monique (Orlando) Pittman-AL, Jennifer Renee (Shon) Jasper-MS, April (Carl) Wainwright-IN, Crystal Carter-IN, Billy Carter-IN, Doyle R. (Joycelyn) Porter, Jr.-AL, Frederick (Faye) Green, Jr.-IN, Tiese Green-IN, Scot Green-IN, Deidra Green-IN, Steven D. Guy-CA, Christopher Barnes-AL, Brittany D. Porter-AL, Kimberly E. Barnes-AL, Allie J. Guy-OR, Ladarra J. (Alfred) Crimes-Nava-CA and Chelsea Nicole Porter-GA. One Daughter-in-Law – Carolyn Green.
