Doug Wood

Thomas Douglas “Doug” Wood, 48, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on August 24, 2024. Doug was born in Indianapolis, IN on September 28, 1975, to parents, John R. and Chriselda C. (Stapp) Wood. He graduated from Warren Central High School and went on to earn his associate degree from IUPUI. Doug served on the Greenwood Police Department for 22 years, beginning as a patrolman and retiring as a detective on the Special Victims Unit. Prior, Doug worked for the Indianapolis Airport Police and on the security detail of Governor Frank O’Bannon as an officer of the Capitol Police.

A former Mr. Indiana, Mr. Midwest States, and Mr. USA finisher, Doug was a lifelong, self-proclaimed “gym rat,” competing in bodybuilding and powerlifting events across the country. Doug was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #56.

Doug was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George & Virginia Wood, and maternal grandparents, Francis and Lucile Stapp.

Doug is survived by his parents, John and Chriselda Wood; sons, Kaden Wood (Lauren) and Kaleb Wood; sister, Dawn Sethman (Greg); nephews, Jonathan Sethman (Hannah) and Nicholas Sethman (Christina); cousin, Jeff Wood (Wendie); mother of his children, Jennifer Wood; friend, Christine Cook; as well as so many more loving family members and cherished friends.

Services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis) with visitation beginning at 11am, followed by funeral services at 2pm, and burial in Washington Park East Cemetery.
