Dorothy Mai Buckner, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully April 5th, 2021. She was born September 4th, 1929 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to parents Ray and Myrtle (Harvey) Pittard.
On March 25th, 1951, she married the love of her life Leland Buckner. They shared many wonderful years together. Leland passed away September 11th, 1998.
Dorothy was high-spirited, loving woman. She always had a strong faith and was a valued member of Outlook Christian Church for many years. Dorothy enjoyed thrills and suspense, often indulging in mystery novels and scary movies. She also enjoyed cheering for the Colts (if they were winning). Dorothy had a large collection of cookbooks and took great pride cooking for her family and friends. Above all, Dorothy adored her family and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She will be greatly missed.
Dorothy is survived by her children Janet Long, Lana Strunk, and Brian (Amy) Buckner; her grandchildren Kasandra, Brittany, and Brady; her sister Jean McGavic; and her beloved cats.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Leland; and her siblings Bonnie Louise and Billy Ray Pittard.
Memorials in her honor can be made to the American Heart Association, the Parkinson’s Foundation, or Outlook Christian Church.
Dorothy’s services will be private. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East cemetery.
