Dorothy Irene Phillips Lowery 1933 – 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dorothy Irene Phillips Lowery, who left this world on February 2, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Indianapolis, IN, in 1933, Dorothy was a woman of strength and unwavering love for her family and friends.
A proud graduate of George Washington High School in 1952, Dorothy loved art and music, though she would be the first to say she never cared for math. Her life took a beautiful turn on her graduation night when she became engaged to the love of her life. She married her late husband, Elmer “Bud” Lowery, on May 17, 1953, and together they built a lifetime of cherished memories, raising five wonderful children.
After marrying, Dorothy worked as a secretary at Allison Transmission, later working at Kohl’s for many years. Her greatest role, however, was as a devoted mother to her five children: Michael (Marcy) Lowery, Diane (Joe) Lykins, Lisa (Helmut) Schwarzin, Greg (Elizabeth) Lowery, and Beth (Jeff) DeLoughery and a devoted Grandmother to her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “Bud” Lowery, her parents and her sister, June Haboush.
Dorothy found joy in puzzles and loved games, earning her title as the “Racko Queen.” She never missed an opportunity for a girls’ night out with her daughters and granddaughters. She was a talented seamstress and loved to sew. Early in her life, she was a proud member of a euchre club, often hosting card parties with her husband, which brought her immense happiness. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, watching over her family with love.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be on Wednesday, February 5th, 2025 and held at Flanner and Buchanan - Speedway, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM and the Service to begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in West Ridge Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her memory.
Her love was a gift, her presence a blessing, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
