Dorothy Ann Kaupke, age 87, of Zionsville, IN passed away on April 22,2025.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years Donn Kaupke, her daughter Mary Kay (Doug) Knowles, and her grandson Thomas (Elise) Knowles. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond E. Schmitz, her mother Mary E. Schmitz, and her brother Raymond P. Schmitz.
Dorothy was born in Gary, IN, in 1937. She attended Crown Point High School and Indiana University Bloomington majoring in education. She was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and the IU High Steppers.
Dorothy obtained her master’s degree in teaching from Ball State University. She was a lifelong educator and taught high school business classes for 40 years at various school systems including Highland, Munster, Crown Point, Beech Grove, and Florida Palm Coast. She was respected by her students for her caring attitude and guidance.
Dorothy was a wonderful cook and a creative writer. She would write poems for clues in Easter egg hunts and stories that were used to entertain the children in the family.
She inspired her family to always try hard and do their best in academic, artistic, and athletic endeavors. She had a sweet disposition and was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed.
Donations to the Boone County Humane Society can be made in her honor in lieu of flowers.
