It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of a wonderful mother, grandmother, piano
teacher and friend to many, Dorothy (Dottie) Rae Wolf of Carmel IN. She passed peacefully in
her sleep on Sunday morning, January 10th, 2021
She was born April 9th, 1932 in Madison, Wisconsin to Milo and Dorothy Ottow. Educated in the
Madison school system, and blessed with a generous supply of talent and energy she studied
music at the University of Wisconsin before graduating from Madison West high school in 1950.
As a youth, she was champion of the city’s “jacks” tournament and she was also a terrific figure
skater on ice.
After marrying William L Yde Jr (also of Madison), she brought 3 sons into this world, Fred Yde,
William “Bill” Yde III (Justine), and Tom Yde, all who survive her and are mourning her death
today. She was extremely proud of these men and their offspring, which include 9 grandchildren
and 8 great grandchildren. She loved watching all of them performing in musicals and playing
sports at all levels. Other surviving members of her family include 3 siblings: sister Loa of
Whitewater WI, brother Richard Ottow (Diane) of Verona WI, and brother John Ottow of
Milwaukee WI.
She and William Yde Jr were divorced in 1973, and soon thereafter she met then married Robert
“Bob” Wolf in 1974 and who preceded her in death by 10 years in September of 2010. They built a
home in Brookshire on the 12th tee of the golf course, and enjoyed many years there. Robert and
Dottie shared many of life’s great delights in numerous travels through the US and Europe and
they often wintered on the Gulf of Mexico. She and Bob volunteered at St.Vincent’s of Carmel
and at Summertrace, where she played piano on Sundays for their Vespers Service. She is also
survived by two step children in Karen (Wolf) Osburn (Keith) and Doug Wolf (Debra) their 10
children and 6 grandchildren.
Dottie taught piano for several years in Carmel, and there are literally hundreds of area kids
(now adults) who can say they learned piano from Dottie Wolf. Early in her teaching years in
Carmel she was a charter member of the Carmel Music Club, a group of private music teachers.
She loved playing golf and bridge, knitting and crocheting, and swimming at the Carmel Racquet
Club.
Dottie and her family joined Carmel United Methodist Church in 1962. She has been a member
there since, and was active in many ministries and bible studies in her church life. She requested
in her final instructions that memorial contributions be made to this church in lieu of flowers.
Flanner Buchanan-Carmel will be hosting visitation for the family from noon -2:PM on
Wednesday, the 20th of January, at 325 East Carmel Drive, Carmel IN, and the funeral will be
held at Carmel United Methodist Church at 2:30 PM. Family and friends who are unable to
attend may view the ceremony via the church’s website
