Dorothy (Dottie) Mae Schoneker Skinner,
88, Indianapolis, passed away on December 30th with family by her side. She was the only child of William and Blanche (Gregory) Schoneker, both deceased.
Dottie attended Shortridge High School and Depauw University where she graduated with a degree in English. She married the late George Windsor Skinner in 1950. She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Whitlock (husband Bucky) and Susan Buddenbaum (husband Jack) and six grandchildren, Alana, Spencer and Lila Whitlock and Sam, Kayley and Madelyn Buddenbaum.
Dottie was a homemaker and long-time volunteer for Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity where she advanced to becoming the fraternity’s Grand President. In that capacity she was a tireless advocate for the sisterhood, personal development and philanthropic contribution of young women and the growth of the fraternity. She later became the Executive Director of Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation where she led the fraternity’s fundraising efforts. She received Alpha Gamma Delta’s Circle of Epsilon Pi, the highest award given by the organization, for her outstanding, faithful and creative service.
Dottie’s passion was ballroom dancing in which she won dozens of amateur competitive dance awards.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6th from 12pm-2pm at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple, 1305 East Broad Ripple Avenue, with funeral services beginning at 2pm.
