Dorothy A. (Sanders) Hamilton, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away April 28, 2017. She was born May 23, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Carl and Mary (Hinz) Sanders. She met the love of her life, Walter J. Hamilton, on a blind date and they were married on November 9, 1957. The two raised five children with love, values, education, and faith being of upmost importance to them. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in her younger years and was a devout parishioner at St. Monica’s Catholic Church. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her friends, children and grandchildren, reading, playing the piano and traveling. She and Walter traveled to Canada to visit his school in Manitoba, Canada, took a cross country train to British Colombia, and toured Europe together visiting Ireland, Italy, Rome and Scandinavia.
Dorothy will be remembered for her endearing sense of humor, perseverance, being a loyal and caring friend, and a love of her church and family.
She is preceded in death by her sisters Delores (Wissel) Wells and Helen Noone.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband of 59 years, Walter; Son, Gary (Teresa) Hamilton of Indianapolis, Indiana; Daughters, Elaine (Dale) Milner, of Terre Haute, Indiana, Laura (Pete) Sepe of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Nancy (Bruce) Hall of Arlington, Virginia, and Janice Hamilton of Indianapolis, Indiana; Sister, Mary Jean Balla; adoring grandchildren, Megan, Andrew, Michael, Alex, Hannah, Jacqueline, Jack, and Margot.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 4, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 Michigan Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46228. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10a.m. Services entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park North. Friends may share condolences by visiting www.flannerbuchanan.com.
