Doris Mae Josivoff, 89, of Carmel, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2021 at Hoosier Village. She was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Marguerite Sellers and Herman Hess.
Doris graduated from Howe High School and attended Purdue University where she was an active member of Alpha Chi Omega fraternity. While at Purdue she met the love of her life, Tom Josivoff. They got married in 1952 and spent time in California and Maryland before returning to Indianapolis. After several years living in Indianapolis, they moved to the small town of Carmel, IN. There they raised two daughters, Jennie and Janice, and became immersed in their girls’ activities and involved in the community.
Doris was an original member of “The Bridge Club”, a group of neighborhood women who met monthly to play bridge for over 55 years. Throughout this time, these women were unwaveringly supportive of each other and were considered extended members of the family. Doris was an active Indianapolis Zoo Guild member and involved in the Carmel PTO. She and Tom were also long time members of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church.
Doris and Tom enjoyed 63 years of marriage before his death in 2015. They relished visiting cherished friends in Florida, traveling, watching their granddaughters grow into successful young women, and treasuring their great-grandson.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Jennie Lunsford (Mike) and Janice Compton along with granddaughters, Sara Lunsford Jordan (Todd), Katie Lunsford, Elizabeth Compton, Meredith Compton and great-grandson, James Jordan.
The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to everyone at Hoosier Village, both in Hawthorn Hall and the Healthcare Center, for the incredible care and kindnesses shown to our mother.
Services will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution could be made to the Carmel Clay Public Library Foundation, 55 4th Ave. SE, Carmel, IN 46033. The memorials will be used to purchase large print books for the library.
