Doris M. Daniel, 92, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was born February 1, 1925 in Edinburg, Indiana to the late Inez Arbuckle Harrison and Arnold Harrison. She married Joseph N. Daniel from Jamesville, North Carolina on September 15, 1943.
She worked at Franklin Hospital from 1957 through 1960 when she left to work for Doctors Young and Link of Greenwood, Indiana until 1981. They resided in the area until they moved to Port Richey, Florida and Springhill, Florida, where she worked for various doctors until 1998. After Joseph’s death in 2000, she relocated back to Indianapolis.
She was active in the White Shrine for many years where she held various offices in the local and state organizations of Florida, and at national levels; in Amaranth where she held various local offices; and the Daughters of the Nile where she also held local offices. During her lifetime, she worked to support the Shrine Hospital, including assisting in taking children to both the Chicago and Louisville Shrine hospitals. While in Florida, she volunteered in the pharmacy at the VA Hospital. She was active in various churches in the Whiteland and Center Grove areas while her children were growing up, including singing in the choir and being a leader of the Smith Valley Baptist Church youth group. After moving back to Indianapolis, she joined Christians United Church where she was active in the Women’s Fellowship for several years and sang in the choir until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 2000, and her daughter Judith Ann in 1946. She is survived by her sister, Lois Jean Christian of Franklin, Indiana; brother-in-law, Simeon Daniel (Ester) of Jamesville, North Carolina; son, Rick L. (Maggie) Daniel of Indianapolis; daughters, Diana J. Robbins of Columbia, Tennessee; L. Sharleen Daniel of Indianapolis, Indiana; granddaughters Carla J. (Tim) Madden; Cathy A. (Randy) Alley; Mary E. Daniel; great grandchildren Shayla Hill, Kyle Madden, and Katie Madden and great-great grandson Peyton Hill.
Memorial service will be held at Christians United Church at 900 N. Mitthoeffer Road, Indianapolis, Indiana on December 16, 2017 at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be an hour before the service.
