Doris Jean Hall

July 27, 1925 — December 19, 2020

Avon, IN

Doris Jean Fairchild Hall, 95, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was a devoted, joyful, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully on December 19, 2020, after fighting COVID-19.

Doris was born in Covington, Indiana, on July 27, 1925, to McKinley and Rebecca Fairchild. She was the third of nine children and the oldest daughter. After graduating from high school, she moved Indianapolis on her own at 18 years of age and worked at Allison Transmission during World War II. There, she met her husband, Leonard Hall, after he returned from military service in Europe. They wed on May 22, 1951, and together, they built a beautiful life before Leonard passed away in 1996. She also worked as a school secretary at Valley Mills Elementary School and later for Indiana Farmers Insurance until her retirement in 1988.

Doris attended Lakeview Church for over 70 years, and her commitment to the Lord was evident in every area of her life. She taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, and volunteered in the church food pantry. While she also loved to host her family for Sunday dinners, travel, and tell hilarious stories, her greatest passion was helping others in their times of need. She served for decades as a volunteer at the front desk at Methodist Hospital and spent most of her days in retirement visiting and providing care to homebound friends.

Doris deeply loved her family, friends, and neighbors – and she was loved by so many in return. She is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly (Jim) Ordo and Diane (Jerry) Clark; four grandchildren, Jamilyn (Nathan) Bertsch, Ryan (Jessica) Ordo, Jordan (Jazmine) Clark, and Jillian (Ryan) Day; two great-grandchildren, Landon Bertsch and Zoe Ordo; sisters, Marie Layton, Susan Misenheimer, and Carol Powell; brother, Robert Fairchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Leonard Hall; great-grandson, Enzo Ordo; parents, McKinley and Rebecca Fairchild; brothers, Earl, Guy and Mack Fairchild; and sister, Ruth Gurley.

Mom had a passion and love for missions and was a faithful supporter of Kings Castle Ministries. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Kings Castle Ministries located in El Salvador (Missionaries Don & Terri Triplett) at giving.ag.org using ministry ID #216986 or use the following link: https://giving.ag.org/Give/Details/600001-216986?MinistryName=Don%20Triplett&Page=1
