Doris E. Leganza of Indianapolis died on January 11, 2021 at the age of 90.
She was born December 17, 1930 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Harry and Thelma Luther.
She attended Ball State University where she earned a degree in Art Education. She went on to marry the love of her life Walter J. Leganza. She enjoyed her years as a military wife traveling the world and living overseas. Upon her husband’s early death, she raised her three children as a single mom dedicating her life to her family. When her children became teenagers, she began working as the Secretary for Warren Central High School where she spent many years before retirement.
A woman of so many creative talents, she enjoyed painting, sewing, and cross stitching. A wonderful cook, she also enjoyed collecting cookbooks even writing a cookbook of her own. She will be remembered as a wonderful mom and grandma who overcame so much in her lifetime.
Raised a Quaker and proud of her heritage, she attended Cumberland United Methodist Church. Her faith was very important to her and carried her through the many challenges of life.
She is survived by her children Krystina K. Leganza (David DeVaughn) and W. John Leganza (Cathleen); daughter-in-law Patricia Bernens; and grandchildren Jonathan Leganza (Alex), Halle Leganza, Willow Leganza, and Daniel Bernens.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter J. Leganza and son Charles M. Leganza.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 16 from 10-11 AM with Funeral Services beginning at 11 AM in Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St, Indianapolis. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
